Your private notes and each group’s conversations are stored in separate Google Docs. You can open them there too.

Yes. Choose Only me to keep a note private. You can use CommentLane for your own notes without creating a shared group.
You need desktop Chrome, the CommentLane extension and a Google account. Sign in with Google, then enable CommentLane on the sites where you want to use it. If the extension is already installed, try leaving your first comment.
Only me keeps your notes in a private Google Doc. If you choose a group, anyone with access to its Doc can read all of that group’s comments, replies and saved page details. Sharing a comment doesn’t give anyone access to a private website.
After you sign in with Google and allow Drive access, groups shared with your account appear automatically. There’s no separate Join step or invitation to accept. CommentLane checks for new groups and replies in the background and when you return to a supported page or the Library. Your browser must be awake and connected; a slow connection or Google request limits can delay updates.
You need the extension to see comments on the webpage. People with access to the group’s Google Doc can also read them there. They can reply in Docs if they have commenting permission, and those replies appear in CommentLane after syncing.
CommentLane works on ordinary webpages where you’ve enabled it. It can’t run on Chrome’s settings pages, and some apps or editable fields aren’t supported. If a page changes, you can still find the comment and its saved page details in your Library.
Your browser connects directly to Google Drive to save and sync comments, replies and their page context. Drafts, cached comments and personal settings stay in your browser. CommentLane has no application server collecting your conversations. Read our privacy policy for details.
This lets groups shared with you appear automatically and lets you reply, without connecting each Google Doc separately. Google grants permission across your Drive; CommentLane uses it for its folder and documents. Your comments go directly between your browser and Google. See how your data is handled.
